USC Union was recognized for recent growth and achievement with the Union County Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 President’s Choice Award at Thursday evening’s annual banquet.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torance Inman said the university was chosen to be the recipient of the President’s Choice Award because of its contributions to its students as well as the entire county.
As Campus Dean Stephen Lowe accepted the award, he said he was very pleased and very proud of what it says about USC Union.
“It’s a great honor,” Lowe said. “It speaks very highly not only of the high quality of the faculty, staff and students, but also of the esteem in which USC Union is held in the community.”
Inman mentioned several of the university’s attributes, including its record-breaking attendance numbers in recent years.
USC Union offers at least two years of course work leading to most baccalaureate degrees. The university also offers two four-year bachelor’s degree programs — The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (BLS) degree and The Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership (BOL) degree.
USC Union also offers a variety of courses in Laurens County in the Laurens County Higher Education Center. Centrally located between Clinton and Laurens, the program offers area citizens the opportunity to begin a post-secondary education career near their home. The program also exhibits a positive relationship between USC Union and one of its surrounding counties.
Student activities at the university include Student Government Association, African American Association, Women on a Mission, Intramural/Extramural Sports and the university’s newest addition — USC Union Bantams Club Baseball. The new club baseball team, which will play all home games at Timken Sports Complex, will take the field in Spring 2013.
The team will have an opportunity to compete for a spot in the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) World Series, and club baseball players are scouted by both professional and varsity baseball teams.
