Union Senior Legion escaped Spartanburg with a 12-11 win on Monday night behind the strong right arm of Seth Osborne. The relief pitcher, who entered the game in the sixth inning, fanned seven batters while allowing no hits with no walks in his four innings of work.
“Seth’s been lights out for us so far,” said Post 22 Head Coach Tommy Ford. “Last year he was mainly a closer but he’s really stepped up this year and can handle more innings. He gives you everything he’s got and he goes out there to win every time.”
Osborne replaced Recus Hughes when the left-handed hurler left the mound with a tired arm. He threw 109 pitches in five innings with two strikes, three walks and allowed six hits. Behind him, Union committed six errors.
In the top of the ninth inning, Post 22 trailed 11-9 and was down to its final out when Hughes slugged a 3-RBI triple that bounced off the right field wall.
Union carried a 12-11 lead into the bottom of the frame where Osborne held Spartanburg off with two strikeouts and a pop fly.
