Hello everyone – Is is hot enough for you? After a lingering mild winter,we just zoomed from cold to hot summer, not many spring days for porch sittin’ and walking. Even “Gottrocks” The Birthday Fairy had a special coolant container underneath his wings, as he texted me with birthday wishes.

Happy Birthday Wishes to Charlie A. Wilbanks, Stan Coleman, Tammy Claytor, Jeanne McCarley, Tommy “ShagMan” King, Kim Shields, LaVerne Brock, Hunter Wagner, and special in Memory Wishes to the late Debera Sturkey. The recent festival wasn’t quite the same without our “Dancin Lady.”

Anniversary

We say Happy Anniversary wishes to Sue and “Trigger” Jennings, Donna and Glen Bumgarner.

Big Crowds

The 26th Annual Party in The Pines Festival and the Wolverine Golf Classic drew a good number of former WHS grads and their families. More news from these two events will be in next week’s column. The Saturday afternoon portion of music WCS Talent drew a nice crowd of parents and friends to their festival performance Saturday.

Congratulations

We send our Congrats to WCS’ Coach Martin. Coach Martin was selected to coach in the North South Allstar baseball games this year.

All right readers, The Deadline Fairy “Garaubund” is here and ready for the Braves game. Think I’ll go join him. Until next week, send your news and photos to: news2cassie@yahoo.com.

Union Senior Legion escaped Spartanburg with a 12-11 win on Monday night behind the strong right arm of Seth Osborne. The relief pitcher, who entered the game in the sixth inning, fanned seven batters while allowing no hits with no walks in his four innings of work.

“Seth’s been lights out for us so far,” said Post 22 Head Coach Tommy Ford. “Last year he was mainly a closer but he’s really stepped up this year and can handle more innings. He gives you everything he’s got and he goes out there to win every time.”

Osborne replaced Recus Hughes when the left-handed hurler left the mound with a tired arm. He threw 109 pitches in five innings with two strikes, three walks and allowed six hits. Behind him, Union committed six errors.

In the top of the ninth inning, Post 22 trailed 11-9 and was down to its final out when Hughes slugged a 3-RBI triple that bounced off the right field wall.

Union carried a 12-11 lead into the bottom of the frame where Osborne held Spartanburg off with two strikeouts and a pop fly.

Hitting leaders for Union:

Mark Jeter — 2 hits, walked, HBP, scored 3 runs.

A.J. Hunter — 2 doubles, 3 RBI.

Juwuan Rice — base hit, reached on error 2 times, scored 2 runs

David Burris — single, reached on error, walked and sac bunt

Hughes — singled and tripled

Jacob Roper — RBI
