Here are five ways to live healthy in October.

1. Start Popping!

Popcorn’s a whole grain, after all. Even better, regular popcorn eaters get 2 ½ more half servings of whole grains daily. So go ahead, snack healthy, and treat yourself on this puffy grain. Of course, watch the butter!

2. Crank up your workout!

Challenge your body to build lean muscles, increase your endurance, and overall health. So whatever your exercise routine start adding weight resistance to challenge yourself. If you do not have a regular exercise routine, the time to start is now.

3. Get your breast cancer screening!

Ladies, this one is specifically for you. October is breast cancer awareness month. If you’ve gone this year without getting your screening done, honor those who have breast cancer and has claimed their lives and get your screening. Talk to your doctor, it may promise you a healthier future.

4. Wash your hands!

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean running water.

5. Lay off the snooze button!

Catching a few extra z’s in the morning won’t help you combat the dreaded afternoon slump, which afflicts even the well-rested. What works? I am glad you asked….naps and eating a well-balanced diet!
