Charles Warner | The Union Times In this week’s “News Around Lockhart” column, Connie Porter announces that the Lockhart Fire Department will be working with her to put on the Lockhart Christmas Parade. The department will also be putting up the Christmas lights in the town and the angels that are also part of the town’s celebration of Christmas.

The Lockhart Fire Dept and I will be putting on the Lockhart Christmas Parade, the first Sunday in December. The date is December 3, so please start thinking about making a float. Last year we had such terrible rain that we didn’t have any floats.

The other day Dale (assistant chief) came to me and told me that he and Lee (fire chief) wanted to have the fire department work with me on the parade. They also will be working on the lights that we have put up on the street lights. And they are taking over the Angels. So I’m very excited to be working with them. Things are coming together, at last.

If anyone has antique cars or trucks that want to show their cars they’re very welcome to be in our parade. All the churches are more than welcome to make floats also. If you have a business to advertise, please join the parade. I’ll keep you informed as we go along with our plans.

Angels

If you want your angel put back up this year, you can send your $10 to Town Hall or bring it to my salon. If you want a new angel for a departed family member the cost is $20.

The Fair

Monday, the Mayors and Council Members of Union County were all invited by the Fair Committee to join them and other guests to go to the Fair Grounds. Fat Sam’s served us barbecue, beans and slaw. We were also entertained by a very funny clown, who juggled and twirled dishes. It was wonderful that all our council members participated.

I guess that Chuck and I will walk around the fair Saturday. We started this tradition two yrs ago. You know it’s one of those nights that you run into all your old friends. Well, Chuck runs into his friends. Mine wave, but he stops every few feet with his so they can compare how many deer they didn’t see.

”Walking” Daisy

I told Gina that I should have skinny legs in a few months. Every night when I get off work, Daisy makes me take her walking. I put the leash on her and she drags me at a run all the way to the Post Office and Cafe. That must be her run when she used to run free. Gina told me to make her walk, that I can control her speed. Gina should try it.

I don’t know what the hurry is cause it’s the same scene every night, nothing new. Then we turn around and speed home.

Yesterday, on my day off, I got her on the race bank, The canal had been drained. It was the first time I had ever seen it like this, and I’ve been here about 30 years. Of course she was trying to drag me down into it.

Besides skinny legs I should end up with muscular arms, from holding on to her tight. I’m kidding I’ll never have skinny legs, no matter how fast I walk.

Trash Collection

Oh, before I forget I made an error last week and said the new trash company was owned by Sam Woods. His name is Joe Woods. He picks up trash on Wednesday and finishes up on Thursday. If he misses you, just stay calm and call me or Town Hall for his number so he can get directions to your house.

Well this is it, so I’ll say good night. Call if you want at 864-545-6652.
