Greater is he that is in me

Do you ever wonder what the world will be like in 10… 20… 50… years? Do you look back at your childhood and say “Man, things have really changed”. Have you heard someone say lately, “The Lord just has to come back soon, because things can’t get much worse”?

Well, join the club! Many feel this way. It’s real fear for some, who have anxiety about the world their children will grow up in. We just don’t know who to trust, what to believe, who to elect, and where to turn. It’s seems like morality is on a downward spiral, never to return. So, let us look to the Word of God for some comfort.

1 John 4:4 says. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” John was writing on how to distinguish the truth from false teaching, because there were many prophets who had gone out into the world, but were not of God. This is just as true and relevant today as it was then, but it also offers encouragement. While we are reminded that there are many false teachers, we are also reminded that Jesus Christ is greater. He still overcomes, and we can too!

I am no match for the evil in this world. I am helpless in certain areas when it comes to protecting loved ones and even possessions. However, there is One that lives in me that has conquered death, hell, and the grave already. Wow… and he loves me so much, that he paid my sin debt, and has a place prepared for all who believe on him, to have everlasting life!

It is easy to become frightened when we watch the news, hear about tragedies, get the latest letter from school, receive unwelcome news from the doctor, or have unexpected bills. Everyday life can be overwhelming because evil is stronger than we are on our on, but we are not alone. God is stronger than anything and everything. I should never fear this world because my Savior has already overcome. Satan may be strong, but he’s not stronger than the God that cast him out!

Let us remind ourselves of who we are, as Christians, and Who we serve! We spend too much time giving the devil credit for every bad thing that comes our way, and never take time to praise our Lord for what He has already done for us! Don’t let the ‘what if’s’ of life control your attitude, instead, let’s look at what the Lord has done and let that control us!

We should pray and read God’s Word daily. When we keep disciplined thoughts about the awesome, powerful, and loving God we serve, we don’t get easily discouraged. Let me leave you with this… Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

I pray, “Lord, I know You are in control. I trust You, and will serve You. You are greater than all the trouble in this world, and through You, I too will overcome. Let me not get burdened by a world that You have complete authority over, in Jesus’ name.”
