Charles Warner | The Union Times In this week’s “New Around Lockhart” column, Connie Lee Porter reports on the medical condition of Town of Lockhart Mayor Ailene Ashe who was injured in a fall recently.

As a lot of you are wondering, and asking, Ailene Ashe was going to a mother/daughter banquet Saturday at the Lockhart Church of God Church when she tripped on a cement piece and fell on her face (which is bruised real bad) and broke her wrist and tore up her hand trying to break her fall. She’s having two surgeries on her hand.

Pickup Problems

Any trouble with trash pickup, if you are with Johnson Sanitation, please call Mallory Thomas at 1-864-706-5421. Or call Town Hall and leave your phone number and she will call you back.

Thank You

I want to thank all of you in the neighborhood that is getting the new sewer lines in Lockhart for putting your trash cans in front of your house until we get the back alleys paved.

New Shoes

Well I believe I told you about me going to Belk’s to buy new shoes. I went to put a pair on, about a week later, and I had two right shoes.

I took off to Spartanburg, just knowing that after a week I would be out of luck to find the left one. The sales person went to the back trying to find it, no luck, so we started looking through a load of boxes out on the floor, and after about 40 boxes I found two left shoes. Happy Me!!

Someone probably was playing a joke on anybody that wanted the shoe.

Automotive Issues

Finally, I went to the Dodge place in Spartanburg to have my passenger side air bag replaced. It was recalled last year, but took all this time to finally come in.

Gina didn’t want to ride with me until it was replaced. She did, but tried to stay away from the dash.

I made Chuck go to the car wash in between rain and wash and vacuum my car out. How can you go to the Dodge dealer with dried grass all over the floor. And maybe a few dog hairs where Daisy jumps in the back seat and off of her blanket. I try really hard to get away from her, but she will find me every time.

If I want to go to the Town Hall I have to go all the way to the school and down North 8th and up the hill, come out Summit Drive and down Mill Hill when I only live three streets away. Because I usually have to go to Chester and always run late, (but try to pop in at Town Hall in case I have to sign something) Daisy finds me and is wagging and crying at the door. So I have to hurry and take her home and of course arrive in Chester late. This happens every week.

Still In The Hospital

Well this is another day, since I started writing this page, so now I’ll tell you more: Sunday, Ailene had screws put in her wrist, until the surgeon decided what he wanted to do for it. So Tuesday, she went back into surgery and they fitted her wrist bones together like a puzzle, and put a cast on. As of today, she’s still in the hospital.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Tuesday, I got off of work a little early, to help celebrate my daughter’s birthday, in Spartanburg. We went to a 3-D movie, seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Pretty good. If you go and see it, just stay after the credits, there’s about four small scenes. We knew this and everyone left as soon as the show ended, just leaving Gina and I, plus 1 other that knew about it also. Then we went mall shopping, which has been years since we’ve done that.

A Trip To Brevard

Wednesday, Mallory Thomas, Wanda Stein and myself went with the Union County Tourism group and invitees on a bus trip to Brevard, N.C. Thank you Curtis Hunter for inviting us.

We went to see how a small town that practically shut down and made a Main Street out of it, with the town working together and getting people to open and clean up downtown stores. There were Art, wood carving, special jewelry, ice cream shops, noveltry, and the list goes on. Whoever has a specialty opened shops.

And the big thing in Brevard, they told us, was beer and bikes. Not your normal bikes and beer. They come up with special recipes. And the bikes are marathon. And Memorial Day Weekend is the White Squirrel Festival. They said they started with about 1,000 people, now they have about 25,000. They have about 1,700 white squirrels. Because of the rain we only saw one, on the edge of the woods.

Well it’s late, and I have been up since 5 a.m. and am tired since it’s after 11 p.m. Good night 864-545-6652.
