Charles Warner | The Union Times In today’s “News Around Lockhart” column, Connie Porter writes about a friend with stage four cancer whose last request is to sing in public one more time. Carolyn Edwards, who sang under the stage name Nikki Rose, will perform at Main Street Junction in Union on Saturday, May 6.

There will be a Public Hearing to discuss and hear your comments about the street lights in Lockhart at the Lockhart Town Hall on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 pm. At 7 p.m. we will be having our monthly Town meeting.

Performing One Last Time

You know a while back I had you pray for my friend, Carolyn Edwards, who has stage four cancer. Well, Carolyn has one request before her passing, and that is to sing for the public one last time. Carolyn used to sing with a band at different clubs many years ago. She went by the name of Nikki Rose, and recorded a few of her songs. So on Saturday, May 6, she will be performing at the Main Street Junction. This will be from 6-10 p.m.

It’s a fundraiser of Oldies but Goodies, the cost is $10 at the door. There will also be hot dogs, chips and drinks to purchase. And if you feel like dancing to her songs, feel welcome. Scottie Silvers is the DJ. If you have further questions you can call 864-466-6077.

Taking A Break

As you realized, I took a break from writing, but I’ll try to find something in my life entertaining. I had a brain freeze for a while. It seems like my life took a dull turn for awhile, also.

Clumsiness

If you remember I can be kind of clumsy, but it’s just that I’m always in a hurry. If you ever have been anywhere in the North you know that all Northerners walk, talk, and just do everything very fast. So as I am getting older, I think my brain is out running my legs.

So the other day, on my way from my back porch to my front porch to feed Daisy, the dog, I didn’t lift my leg and foot up far enough to clear the cement brick wall in my front yard and fell up it on my knees. Just as a car was passing!! I just hoped they were talking to the person in the passenger seat and didn’t notice me flat on my face, with Daisy giving me kisses.

I clear that wall everyday, but I was hurrying. I’m too lazy to walk all the way to my driveway, so this is my shortcut.

Still Sprinting

When I lived in Flint, my sister in law and I would go to the mall shopping, and so help me, I would have to keep turning around to go back and walk with her. She was from Chester and hadn’t picked up the Northern pace yet. Although she lived up there for many many years and raised her kids up there. I’m still a sprinter.

Trash Pickup

Trash Pickup will be on Thursday or Friday. The town is asking you to roll your garbage can out to the front of your house or the sidewalk.

This is being done because the back alleys where the garbage is usually picked up are in a mess due to our sewer lines being worked on.

If you have problem about your garbage, please call our new council member Mallory Thomas at 864-545-6314 and she will contact Johnson Sanitation.

At The Movies

Well since my last letter, I’ve been to two movies. Rogue One — it’s about the before of Star Wars, to explain how the people and things are what they are. Oh well, Gina fully understood and liked it. I didn’t know or understand what or why, but I put on a good face and listened to the recap all the way home.

Next I saw Ghost In A Shell, lots of action, I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep, cause I figured she wouldn’t know since it was dark in the theater. But I watched it and really don’t understand either, but it was better than the first. Even though both had good reviews.

I just tolerate Sci-Fi. Gina thinks I maintain all the info from all the former movies that these come from. I just go for the moment, but I know how to shake my head yes. How much can a brain maintain?

A couple of years ago she took me to all the Horror films that came out, so that’s another story for me to tell at another time. At least my reaction from those is very funny.

Remember In Prayer

Please pray for Laura Dabbs, she’s in rehab after a sudden illness.

Add Chuck to your prayers, he had a test done last week and has to hear the results tomorrow. The doctor found a mass in his colon.

Well as you can tell, I don’t have a lot to tell, but feel free to call me and add something to my story. Good night 864-545-6652
