UNION — Ruby Smith Jennings, 98, 203 Carlisle Santuc School Road, died Sept. 9, 2013.
A native of Union, she was the widow of Willie Jennings Sr. and daughter of the late Knight and Essie Gore Smith. She was a member of Thomas Chapel AME Church where she was Mother of the Church and member of the Missionary Society. She was a member of the Women’s Aid Society and was retired from J.P. Stevens.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Eddie Jennings, Joseph Jennings, James Smith, and Marvelous Jennings; and one daughter, Louella Jennings.
Survivors include three sons, Willie (Bertha) Jennings and Alphonso Kelly both of Union, and Larry (Andrena) Jennings of Hartsville; six daughters, Alberta Shelton of Newberry, Ruby (Robert) Cheek of Carlisle, Essie Mae Jennings of the home, and Judy (Woodrow) Jeter, Rev. Carolyn (Pete) Evans, and Kathryn Jennings, all of Santuc; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Chapel AME Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
