UNION — Mr. Jack Charles Odell, 86, husband of Louise Jeter Odell, 701 E. Main St., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 27, 2014.
Mr. Odell was born in Union County, Feb. 22, 1928, a son of the late Fred H. Odell, Sr. and Lenora Dotson Odell. He was the last surviving member of eight children.
Mr. Odell was educated in the Union County schools and was founder and owner of Mid-Way BBQ. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church until his health declined.
Mr. Odell served in the US Navy during World War II as a fireman first class on board the submarine USS Odax, SS484 and has remained a loyal member of the American Legion Post 22 for over 60 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jeannie Louise Odell of Union, and Amy Odell Allen and husband Jay, also of Union; a son, John Charles Odell and wife Jacquelyn of Chapin; a niece, Ethel Jeter Sutton, reared in the home; six grandchildren, Catherine Lazar Odell, John Mobley Odell, Rebecca Louise Hope and husband Robert, Jennifer Gray Knox and husband Joe, John Riley Gray and Abby Kate Allen; and five great-grandchildren, Joe, Addy, Julie, Kayton and Jack.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Emory.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Bright, Don Fowler, Robert Sutton, Jack Odell, Rob Hope, Joe Knox, Kenneth Johnson and Calvin Nix.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses of Medi Home Hospice and to ALL of Mr. Odell’s caregivers for enabling them to continue his care at home during his extended illness in order to honor his wishes.
