UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets went 11-2 in the “Toast of the Coast” seven-on-seven football tournament in Brunswick, Ga. over the weekend.

Head Coach Steve Taneyhill said his team played really well for two days in the tournament.

“I’m very proud of my guys for their effort,” Taneyhill said. “It was 97 degrees on Saturday, and we played nine 25-minute games, winning all but the last one.”

The Jackets averaged 42 points per game, and gave up an average of 11 per game. In one particular game, the Yellow Jackets defeated Yulee High School (of Yulee, Fl.) with a final score of 65-0.

“They only had one first down, and we scored every time we had the ball,” Taneyhill said.

In the championship game of the tournament, Union County fell to Pierce County High School (of Blackshear, Ga.) in a final score of 38-28.

Union County’s Shemar Glenn was named MVP of the tournament.

“He had an outstanding two days,” Taneyhill said, adding that Glenn has played well in both of the tournaments in which the team has played this summer.

Glenn is the son of Sonya Glenn and former Yellow Jacket and Gamecock football great Monty Means.

The Yellow Jackets play at Laurens today (Tuesday, June 24), and they will play in the National Select 7-on-7 qualifier tournament on Thursday and Friday, June 26-27, in Spartanburg.
