UNION — The USC Union Bantams club baseball team defeated the University of Tennessee’s club team twice in a double header over the weekend.
In Game 1 of the double header, the Bantams defeated UT with a final score of 9-3 after seven innings. The winning pitcher was Devontae Glenn, who was pitching a no-hitter until the sixth inning. Glenn delivered nine strikeouts and had five walks, giving up three runs (one earned) and four hits. Glenn also ran in one run during the game.
In other Game 1 highlights, Nick Owen hit a single, a double, two RBIs, and scored a run; Keiston Bishop had a walk, a single, one RBI, and scored two runs; Brandon Pitts had two walks and a single, stole a base, and scored one run; Matt Bostic had a single and an RBI and scored one run; Kali Williams was hit by a pitch and scored a run; Tyler Grubbs was hit by a pitch twice and had one RBI; Joe Beatty had a walk and a sacrifice fly RBI and scored one run; Jake Walton had a walk.
In Game 2 of this weekend’s double header, the Bantams defeated UT with a final score of 12-0. The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
The winning pitcher was Keiston Bishop, who pitched the complete shut-out, collecting four strikeouts and giving up one walk and two hits. Bishop also had an RBI, scored two runs, stole a base, and had a single, a double and a walk.
In other Game 2 highlights, Jake Walton hit a triple, a sacrifice fly, a single and four RBIs, scoring one run; Matt Bostic had a single, a double, a walk, one stolen base, an RBI, and two runs scored; Mike Wood delivered five RBIs and three stolen bases, with two doubles and two runs scored; Joe Beatty had two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored; Brandon Pitts hit a single and an RBI, with one run scored; Nick Owen scored a run; Rashad Green hit a single and had one stolen base; and Tyler Grubbs had a single, a walk, a stolen base, and one run scored.
Coach Paul Wilkes named Matt Bostic and Mike Wood as position players of the week. Wilkes said Wood had his best game of the season on Saturday with five RBIs and three stolen bases, hitting two doubles and scoring two runs. Bostic delivered a combined total two RBIs, three scored runs, two singles, a double and one stolen base for the weekend.
The Bantams will play Columbus State at home — Timken Sports Complex — this Saturday. Start time is TBA.
