UNION COUNTY — The Union County JV baseball team defeated East Rutherford in a final score of 5-3 on Monday, improving the JV Jackets’ record to 8-1 and handing East Rutherford their first loss of the season.


Coach Jeff Bailey was complimentary of his team’s attitude.


“I have a great bunch of players with great attitudes and desire to play the game of baseball,” Bailey said.


Shi Smith pitched four innings, collecting four strikeouts and giving up three hits. In the 5th, Franklin Thompson came in to pitch three innings, striking out four batters and giving up two hits.


Ryan Vaughan went 1-4; Franklin Thompson went 2-4; AJ Hunter went 1-3; JD Cheek went 1-3; Debo Woods went 1-3; and Shi Smith went 1-3.
