UNION — The Sims Middle School softball team picked up six big wins last week.
On Monday, Sims defeated Lockhart in a final score of 3-1 in Game 1. Coach Kelly Jenkins said Kailee Stepp pitched a great game, allowing only one hit and striking out 10 batters. Bailey Betenbaugh was two for three with a home run. Shy Means was two for three. Ja’Mya Feaster, Zacoria Favors, Anna Johnson, Kailee Stepp and Sydericka Jeter each had a hit.
In Game 2, Sims defeated Lockhart 20-0. Bailey Betenbaugh pitched a perfect game with nine strikeouts and also went four for four at the plate with two triples and a double. Anna Johnson was two for three with a double. Kailee Stepp was two for three with a triple. Shy Means had two hits including a double. Shydericka Jeter was three for four. Natasha Dunn, Shekima Moore and Macee Chesnutt each contributed a hit.
On Tuesday, Sims won two games over Jonesville. Jordan Morris — Sims’ winning pitcher in Game 1 — struck out four. Anna Johnson was two for three with a double. Shy Means hit a grand slam.
In Game 2, Kailee Stepp — Sims’ winning pitcher — struck out five and allowed only one hit. Shy Means hit two home-runs including her second grand slam of the day. Bailey Betenbaugh and Sydericka Jeter each had two hits. Stepp also had a hit.
On Thursday, the Sims team won both games in a double header against Byrnes. Sims defeated the Byrnes C team in Game 1 with a final score of 12-2. Pitcher Bailey Betenbaugh had nine strikeouts. Kailee Stepp was two for two with a triple. Anna Johnson was two for three. Shy Means was two for two. Tykasia Favors was two for three. Shydericka Jeter had two hits, and Macee Chesnut had one hit.
In Game 2, Sims defeated Byrnes D team with a final score of 5-2. Betenbaugh got the win for the Tigers as she collected six strikeouts, in addition to going three for three with a home-run. Tykasia Favors, Kailee Stepp and Shy Means each had a hit.
The Sims team faces Dorman this Friday at Timken Sports Complex.
