UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School tennis team (1-0) opened the season Monday with what Coach Tom Adamo called a very good win against York 5-1.
“York returned all their starters from last year and I knew it was going to be a close match,” Adamo said. “We got behind early with No. 1 Matt Haney and No. 5 Jacob Gault — both losing quickly in the first sets. Then they calmed down and started being more consistent and patient, and it paid off by winning in the third set tie breaker.”
Adamo said No. 2 Andrew Adamo and No. 4 David Kicidis played really well, winning in straight sets along with the No. 2 doubles team of Kane Quinn and Ben Stone. Adamo added that Tyler Gregory, who was not feeling well, “took one for the team” and lost in straight set.
