UNION COUNTY — The Sims Tigers fell to the Boiling Springs Bulldogs in football action this week.

7th Grade

The Sims Tigers 7th grade football team lost to the Boiling Springs Bulldogs in a final score of 24-8 on Wednesday.

“We played hard but let some opportunities slip by that could have put us ahead,” said Coach Mitchell Moss.

Moss said the Tigers were down 16-0 to start the 3rd quarter when Quez Smith recovered a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, making the score 16-8.

“The defense did an excellent job of shutting them down,” Moss said. “The offense had three possessions inside the 20 but could not punch it in.”

Moss said the Bulldogs offense broke off a long run in the 4th quarter which lead to another touchdown for them.

8th Grade

The Sims Tigers 8th grade football team suffered its first loss in 12 games, as they were defeated by Boiling Springs in a final score of 24-12.

“This is tough to handle,” Moss said on Thursday. “The kids battled, but we were our own worst enemy tonight. For 11 ball games, we took care of the ball and limited our mistakes, but tonight we were unable to overcome the costly mistakes.”

Moss said the Tiger defense did an excellent job of keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard, but the offense was plagued by three turnovers which resulted in three touchdowns.

The Tigers were down 12-0 when Bryan Good found Jaden Bates in the back of the end zone. Then the Tigers took the first drive of the second half down field and tied the game 12-12. A late turnover gave the Bulldogs the lead, as they recovered a fumble and took it back 47 yards. The Bulldogs held their lead throughout the remainder of the game.

“Many people believe the season is over because we lost, but we have three games remaining and still have a shot at winning the championship,” Moss said. “Next week’s game is huge. The mistakes will be corrected, and DR Hill will get our best shot. I promise you that.”
