UNION COUNTY — In a heartbreaking finish in the last second of the game, Union County fell to Broome with a final score of 28-27.
In the first quarter, Union County put the first points on the board with a touchdown, taking a 7-0 lead. Union County’s defense held Broome for the remainder of the quarter, and at the beginning of the second quarter, Union County’s Marcus Brown scored a touchdown, and after a PAT from Blake Berry, Union took a 14-0 lead.
Then, with 5:33 left in the half, Broome scored a touchdown with the PAT, making the score 14-7, which remained through the rest of the first half.
Then, into the third quarter with 5:51 left on the clock, Broome scored again, tying the game again 14-14. Then, with 16 seconds left in the quarter, Union County answered with another touchdown, increasing the lead to 21-14. The Yellow Jackets kept that lead through the remainder of the quarter.
Into the fourth quarter, Broome scored a touchdown, tying the game yet again 21-21. Then, with 43 seconds left in the game, Broome scored another touchdown, taking the lead 28-21. With 1 second on the clock, Union County had the ball around the two yard line, with one second left on the clock, Union County scored a touchdown, making the score 28-27. Instead of going for the PAT to tie the game, Union County went for the two-point conversion and fumbled. The final score was 28-27.
