UNION — Students at Sims Middle School will have the opportunity to make use of the services of the Sims Middle School Library during the first half of next week.

Teacher-Librarian Jennifer Tazerouti says that the library will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, July 14-Wednesday, July 16 to provide summer activities for Sims students.

“It is being opened for our students, parents are welcome but not required,” Tazerouti said Wednesday afternoon. “Also, our eighth-graders who are now ninth-graders are welcome. All of our students are welcome to come and get a book.

“The reason we are doing this is because by this time the students may have exhausted all the novelties of summer,” she said. “They may be looking for something to do. They may be looking for something else to read or somewhere else to go. It is hot outside and we have the largest collection of books for middle schools students in the county.”

Tazerouti said that when students come to the library next week they may engage in activities on their own or with others who are there.

“They may choose to be as interactive or as independent as they want,” Tazerouti said. “As long as they are picked up on or before 2 p.m. we’ll be happy.”

In addition to being able to check out books, Tazerouti said students can take advantage of the other activities and services offered by the library.

“They can play chess, and if they have enough people we can have a tournament,” Tazerouti said. “They can use iPads and the computers. they can bring in Wii games and play. They can read, they can checkout books. They bring their lunch or a snack and enjoy lunch with a friend.”

Tazerouti said the students can make videos and they can learn how access the library’s e-books including “A Separate Peace” which is required reading for Honors students.

“They can learn how to access e-books, I’ll teach them,” Tazerouti said. “We have e-book copies of ‘A Separate Peace’ for our Honors students. There’s enough for everyone to have a copy.”

Tazerouti added the library has digital resources for all the other books required of the Honors program.
