UNION COUNTY — Independence Day celebrations — including food, music and of course, fireworks — drew massive crowds to two local sites.
The Union County Recreation Department and the Union County Chamber of Commerce presented the annual “Light Up the Lake” celebration at Foster Park Lake. The event began with the singing of the national anthem by local sixth grader Brianna Bailey, which was followed by a musical performance by “Not Even Brothers” (Guy Workman and Pat Phillips). The event also featured a flag retirement ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 42 and Cub Scout Pack 42, and the finale was a fireworks display sponsored by Red, White, and Blue sponsors OurUpstateSC.info, Founders Federal Credit Union, and Ace Auto Salvage; “Firecracker” sponsor Gestamp; and individual sponsors United Wood and ELB Loans.
The Buffalo Community Festivals Committee also hosted its annual July 4th Party at the Pond on Friday. A large crowd gathered at the Buffalo Mill Pond beginning at 6 p.m. for music and vendors, and attendance continued to grow throughout the night until the event culminated with a huge fireworks display.
