UNION COUNTY — There are two Independence Day celebrations scheduled for Friday evening in Union County.


Light Up the Lake


The Union County Recreation Department and the Union County Chamber of Commerce will present their annual “Light Up the Lake” celebration from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Foster Park Lake.


The event will include a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” by Brianna Bailey of Union, as well as a musical performance by “Not Even Brothers” at 6:30 p.m. A flag retirement ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 42 and Cub Scout Pack 42 will take place at 8:25 p.m. Then, at dark, a huge fireworks display will be presented.


This year’s fireworks show is sponsored by Red, White, and Blue sponsors OurUpstateSC.info, Founders Federal Credit Union, and Ace Auto Salvage; “Firecracker” sponsor Gestamp; and individual sponsors United Wood and ELB Loans.


The event is billed as free, wholesome entertainment for the entire family, and food vendors will be available. For more information, call 864-429-1670 or visit www.unionscrec.com.


Party at the Pond


The Buffalo Community will also host its annual July 4th Party at the Pond, which is set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday.


The event — sponsored by the Buffalo Community Festivals Committee — will include music and vendors, as well as a fireworks show at dark.
