UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets wrestling program raised money to assist wrestlers in going to summer wrestling camp.

Union County Coach G.B. McDaniel said a little over $400 was raised on Saturday as his team held a car wash at Union County Stadium. He said the funds raised will assist a few of the wrestlers with costs of wrestling camp at Newberry College. McDaniel said 25 of his students will leave on Sunday for the camp, which is led by Newberry’s Coach Jason Valek.

“Coach Valek is a great coach and runs an awesome program,” McDaniel said, pointing out details of Valek’s success at Newberry. “He helps us out a lot.”

In eight years, Valek has led Newberry to five straight NCAA Super Region I Championships and five straight Top 8 national finishes. Valek’s teams are two-time NWCA National Duals runner-ups. Valek has produced 26 All-Americans, 47 national qualifiers, three NCAA National Champions, two national runner-ups and an NWCA National Champion.
