UNION — The Miracle League of Union County will host two big events in August.
At this week’s meeting of the Union County Council, Amy Austin — The Miracle League of Union County (MLUC) board chair — announced two events scheduled for August, one of which is open to the public.
The MLUC will host a free baseball clinic for all MLUC players, past and present, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Timken Sports Complex.
Players will receive personal instruction from the 2014 state champion Union County Lady Jackets softball team, as well as Union County varsity and JV baseball players. MLUC players will learn the fundamentals of baseball, including catching, throwing, fielding and hitting.
Each participant will receive a free lunch and t-shirt.
Those who are interested may register now by emailing the player’s name, phone number, and t-shirt size to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Movie on the Mound
The MLUC will present “Movie on the Mound” on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Timken Sports Complex. Gates will open at 7:30 p.m., and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m.
“We are celebrating our very own ‘field of dreams’ and a successful first season,” Austin said. “Join us as we watch the movie on a huge outdoor movie screen.”
Austin suggested that those who attend bring a chair, bean bag or blanket to relax and watch the movie. Drinks, popcorn and candy will be sold by the MLUC to continue raising funds for the group.
A $5 per person donation to the MLUC will be appreciated at the gate. Children ages 5 and under may donate $3 each.
