LOCKHART — Within a local community, several people have pitched in to help raise money for one of their friends who is in need.
“A Day for Barbara” will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday, May 24, at Locked Hearts Salon, located at 4719 Jonesville Lockhart Highway, Lockhart.
The event will be held as a benefit for Barbara Millwood, who was in a car accident and suffered a broken back, requiring surgery. The injuries have caused her to be out of work, and her husband has missed several weeks of work. The couple has five children and a large collection of hospital bills.
The benefit — organized by Heather Brigmon, Melissa Shrader and Tammy Red Mollett — will include a silent auction for items including a massage from Tammy Horton, a new women’s bike, a Hank Parker rod and reel, a gift bag from Almost Pink, an oil change and tire rotation and more. The event will also offer horse rides, a raffle for $300 cash, a community yard sale, and a bake sale with homemade cakes and other sweets. All proceeds from the day’s activities will go toward Millwood’s expenses. Brigmon, owner of Locked Hearts, will also provide haircuts and color chalking (temporary bright colors), with 100 percent of proceeds going to Millwood.
“The people have really come together and are willing to help any way they can,” Mollett said. “The Millwoods are good, hard-working people that strive to support their family. Right now, they are having a hard time, and we want to help. Never have they asked for a handout from anyone. Barbara would give you the shirt off her back if she knew you needed it, and her five children are her life!”
Brigmon echoed Mollett’s sentiments about the Millwood family.
“Barbara is a great member of our small community,” Brigmon said. “As a matter of fact, when a little boy didn’t have a Christmas last year, she saw to it that he got a tricycle and a few toys, and I thought that was precious.”
Brigmon said Millwood makes her think of Proverbs 18:10, paraphrasing the verse: “The name of the Lord is my strong tower, and with it, I am safe.”
“Her faith in Jesus in this hard time has been so strong!” Brigmon added.
