MONARCH — Over $3,000 was raised for the Monarch Fire Department during a fundraiser run on Saturday.
After expenses, the Monarch Fire Department Color to 5K Run/Walk raised $3,220 for the fire department on Saturday morning. There were 125 runners/walkers who participated in the 5K course which stretched throughout the Monarch community.
“We couldn’t have done it without our corporate sponsor — Sailors Asphalt and Paving,” said run coordinator Melissa Flood. “They stepped up to the plate and paid for our colored powder and a lot of our shirts.”
Flood said this was the first color run to have been organized for the fire department, and she hopes to make it an annual event. Following the run, participants enjoyed music from a DJ and food vendors outside the fire department. Flood said she plans to expand the post-run festivities next year, turning the run into an all-day festival for the Monarch community.
Flood said she is also thankful for all of the businesses that sponsored the run, as well as everyone who participated or came out to support the cause.
