LAURENS COUNTY — A man wanted in connection with the robbery of a store in Union County last week was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Laurens County.
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced that Jeffrey Earl Gedeist had been arrested by deputies with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office at a residence in Laurens County at approximately 1:45 p.m. Taylor said that after being arrested Gedeist was transported to the Laurens County Detention Center where he remains on charges from both Laurens and Union counties.
Gedeist, 41, 919 Central Avenue, Whitmire, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with armed robbery/robbery while armed or alleged armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
The charge against Gedeist stems from an incident on Friday, April 26 when, according to a report filed by the sheriff’s office, a white male, later identified as Gedeist, attempted to rob the Dollar General store located at 6514 Whitmire Highway, Whitmire. The warrant issued states Gedeist demanded money and threatened the store cashier with bodily harm. It also states Gedeist insinuated he had a pistol and would shoot the cashier. He also left the store without paying for items valued at $51.54.
Deputies responding to the incident were able to locate a stolen vehicle at 190 Maybinton Road which they were able to link to Gedeist. He ran into the woods and bloodhounds tracked him for approximately four hours but were unable to locate him at the time.
In announcing Gedeist’s arrest, Taylor said that the armed robbery warrant has been served on Gedeist who will be transported back to Union County after his bond has been set in Laurens County.
Taylor said he would like to thank all the agencies that have helped with this investigation, including SLED, the Whitmire Police Department, and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
