UNION — Family, friends, and customers turned out in large numbers for Saturday’s drop-in celebrating the 70th anniversary of Smith’s Jewelry Store and the 85th birthday of its owner, Al Smith.
The celebration of Smith’s Jewelry’s 70th anniversary was held across three days — Thursday, Friday, and Saturday — with special sales of the store’s merchandise during those days.
On Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. the special sales were accompanied by a special drop-in that not only celebrated the store’s anniversary, but also the anniversary of the birth of its owner, Al Smith.
There was a large turnout for the drop-in according to sales clerk Beth Smith, the daughter of Al and Lib Smith.
“We had a great turnout, people were waiting outside to get in,” Beth Smith said Monday. “We had a great turnout of family and friends. We consider our customers our friends. We just appreciate all our customers over the years being loyal.”
As for her parents, Beth Smith said “mother and daddy had a really good day.”
Al Smith echoed his daughter’s sentiments, saying he was also delighted with the turnout for Saturday’s drop-in.
“We were tickled to death by the traffic,” Al Smith said. “We had a full house starting at 11 o’clock ending a little after one.
“We had a lot of friends and customers come in and business was extremely good,” he said. “We were tickled to death from beginning to end.”
