UNION — A local church will use the funds it raised through its recent spaghetti dinner and bake sale to support a variety of community activities that benefit children, the elderly, and the needy.
Augsburg Lutheran Church holds a spaghetti dinner fundraiser four times a year. The most recent dinner was Thursday evening when church members made and served spaghetti, bread, salad, and beverages such as tea and water.
In addition to the dinner, the church also held a bake sale Thursday evening.
Church Treasurer Debbie Buchanan said there was a big turnout for both the dinner and the bake sale, enabling the church to raise a total of $740.
“We made $640 from the spaghetti supper and $100 from the bake sale,” Buchanan said Tuesday morning. “It was a really good turnout.”
Buchanan said the church uses the money from its spaghetti suppers and other fundraisers for “all of our community projects.”
Augsburg’s projects for 2014 run the gamut from church activities to holiday-related events to support for local public service organizations.
“This year we’re doing an Easter Egg Hunt for all the children before Easter,” Buchanan said. “We adopt children from the Secret Santa at Grace United Methodist Church. We have Vacation Bible School and we use the funds toward that.
“We give a monthly donation to Meals on Wheels,” she said. “Usually at Christmas we purchase personal items for the patients at Ellen Sagar.”
Buchanan thanked the members of Augsburg Lutheran Church for their support, including helping prepare and serve the spaghetti dinner and preparing the baked goods. She also thanked the public for their support of the church and its activities.
“Thanks to all of our members for their donations and the community for their support,” Buchanan said.
