UNION — The 4th Annual Upcountry Literary Festival at USC Union kicked off on Friday, with festivities continuing today.
Festival coordinator Randy Ivey said he was very pleased with the steady flow of people who attended Friday’s literary festival activities throughout the day.
Friday’s festivities included poetry presentations from Ray McManus, Lisa Hammond and Terry Kennedy; Southern history and literature presentations by James Everett Kibler (recipient of the 2014 Upcountry Literary Festival Appreciation Award), David Moltke Hansen, and Marty Daniels; and new voices in poetry and prose presentations by Dan O’Shields and Duna Miller.
After lunch, presentations included “Growing, Cooking, Eating the Greek Revival Way by Patricia Moore-Pastides; a dramatic presentation of “The Cards” by playwright Lee Lawing, which was performed by Shyanne Hall and John Crocker and directed by Amber Crocker; History by Dr. Allan Charles and Karen Stokes; the presentation of the Tandy R. Willis Award for Most Promising Writer to Brock Adams; and poetry and music presentations by Debra Daniel, Jim Clark, Freddie Vanderford, Fayssoux McLean, and David Ezell.
Assistant festival coordinator John Crocker said he was happy with the turnout and thrilled with the positive responses received from each and every presenter.

Noon — Meet and greet will be held in the lounge on the first floor. Peggy Waller of the Inn at Merridun will host a cooking demonstration in the lobby of the second floor.
*All books will be sold outside the USC Union bookstore located on the first.
