JONESVILLE — The driver of a school bus that crashed into a tree this morning has been charged in the accident.

L/Cpl Gary Miller of the SC Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 7:25 a.m. on Whitlock Lake Road near Morristown Road approximately 1.3 miles west of Jonesville.

Miller said that the 1988 International School Bus was traveling south on Whitlock Lake Road when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Miller said the driver of the school bus, Ronald D. Holden, 61, of Union, has been charged with driving too fast for conditions.

In a statement released late this morning, Superintendent Dr. Kristi Woodall said that “no life threatening injuries were reported” from the accident scene. She said that “all of the students were offered medical treatment at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Six were transported to the hospital by ambulance, and sixteen arrived on another school bus.”

Woodall said that “we appreciate the patience of the parents and family members as well as the response and compassion from the local hospital district, law enforcement, EMS, and first responders from other agencies.”
