JONESVILLE — After 17 years of serving the community the Jonesville branch of First Citizens Bank will close its doors for the final time at the end of May.

Angela English, spokesperson for First Citizens Bank, said that the bank will close its Jonesville branch, a decision that she said was the result of First Citizens’ ongoing evaluation process.

“In an effort to operate our branch network in an effective and profitable manner we have decided to combine the operations of our Jonesville branch with our Pacolet branch,” English said. “We continuously evaluate our branch network based on many criteria. Our approach to this process is deliberate and methodical and we take multiple factors into consideration. These factors include branch traffic, teller transaction volume, and proximity to other First Citizen locations and it was a combination of these factors that lead to this decision.”

English said the Jonesville branch, which is located at 408 Pacolet St., will close at the end of May.

“That weekend we will consolidate the operations of the Jonesville branch into the Pacolet branch,” English said. “Our Jonesville office will close that day, May 30, and our Pacolet branch will welcome our Jonesville customers the following Monday, June 2.”

English added that First Citizens “will notify customers by letter in a few weeks that we will move the safety deposit boxes to Pacolet.”

First Citizens acquired the Jonesville location from Wachovia in 1997 and English said no decision has been made about the future of the property.

The Jonesville branch currently has two employees and English said the bank is “working with them individually to make this a positive transition.”

Even though the Jonesville branch is being closed and its operations shifted to Pacolet, English said First Citizens will continue to provide its customers with the best service possible.

“We look forward to continuing to provide customers with superior service at our Pacolet office,” English said. “First Citizens remains committed to branch banking and has more branch locations than any other bank in South Carolina.”
