UNION — The opening of Union’s new Waffle House has been rescheduled for Thursday.
Human Resources Specialist Tifanny Geter announced Friday that the opening of the Waffle House had been moved back from Monday to Thursday. The opening had originally been scheduled for this past Thursday, but had to be rescheduled because of the winter storm that dropped up to 8 inches of snow and ice on the county this week.
Geter said the new date for the restaurant’s opening was also due to the weather and the fact that its staff spent much of this week filling in for Waffle House personnel in Spartanburg and Gaffney who were unable to get to their jobs because of the storm. She said Waffle House transported its Union employees to and from Spartanburg and Gaffney where they worked very long hours helping those restaurants maintain their 24/7 schedules.
“We’re very appreciative of our Union associates helping us out,” Geter said. “They have been lifesavers.”
Geter said pushing back the opening of the Waffle House in Union will give the employees there more time to prepare for the opening of the restaurant which, like its counterparts in Spartanburg, Gaffney, and elsewhere, will never close its doors once they are open.
When the restaurant opens Thursday at 10 a.m., customers will have an array of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items to choose from including:
• Breakfast — Eggs, waffles, hash browns, omelets, bacon, and sausage
• Lunch — Angus burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches
• Dinner — Pork chops, t-bone steaks, and ribeye steaks
All items on the menu will be available 24/7.
The new Waffle House will have a staff of 40-60 waiters, waitresses, and cooks, but while that staff is already in place, Geter said the restaurant will still be accepting applications for persons interested in working there after it opens.
