UNION — A year after it was announced and six months after construction began the new Waffle House will open for business at 10 a.m. Thursday.
In January 2013, Jeff Cole, vice president of Real Estate for Waffle House, announced that the Norcross, Ga.-based chain had decided to locate one of it newest restaurants in Union. Cole said the decision was made in response to the operators of Waffle House restaurants in Spartanburg and Greenville who’d been asking the company to look at Union for several years. He said the company had been looking at Union for some time and waiting for the right location.
That location turned out to be 519 N. Duncan Bypass, Union, and Cole said that the restaurant would be open for business in early 2014.
It is now early 2014 and Tiffany Geter, Human Resource Specialist for Waffle House, announced this week that the restaurant will open at 10 a.m. Thursday. Geter said the Union restaurant, like the rest of the more than 1,700 Waffle Houses operated by the company across its 25-state service area, will be open 24/7.
Construction began on the restaurant in July and was completed at the beginning of this month.
The new restaurant will have a staff of 40-60 waiters, waitresses, and cooks. Of those, more than 20 were hired through a series of three job fairs conducted by Waffle House at the USC Union Auditorium.
When the restaurant opens Thursday, customers will have an array of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items to choose from including:
• Breakfast — Eggs, waffles, hash browns, omelets, bacon, and sausage
• Lunch — Angus burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches
• Dinner — Pork chops, t-bone steaks, and ribeye steaks
All items on the menu will be available 24/7.
