UNION — Firefighters from four counties worked Monday afternoon to contain and extinguish a fire that spread across a field and surrounding woods in Union.

A grass/forest fire destroyed approximately 90 acres of property on Bentley Town Road, Union, on Monday. All 11 fire departments from within Union County responded to the fire, as well as West Chester and McConnells fire departments from Chester County, Pacolet Fire Department from Spartanburg County, and Asbury Rehoboth and Goucher-White Plains fire departments from Cherokee County.

Kelly Kelton Deputy Chief Jerry Yarborough said the fire appeared to have been started by burning trash on the windy afternoon.

Look for more information about the fire as it becomes available in The Union Daily Times and at www.uniondailytimes.com.
