UNION — A local church will celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a “thankful march” and forum this Saturday.

McBeth Baptist Church is sponsoring the march which church member Oscar Gist said will begin at the Union County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Gist said the march will go from the courthouse to the church where a forum with the theme “Look Where He Brought Us From. Where Are We Going?” will be held. He said the march will be a “thankful” one that celebrates what has been achieved while the forum will look at what remains to be done to achieve King’s dream of full equality for all people.

“It’s to bring Union County into the realization that we are not where we need to be,” Gist said. “The forum will consist of law enforcement, education, the political arena, and the medical field

“King’s thoughts were that every man was created equal and we’re looking at it from these different perspectives,”he said. “Each of those departments will have five minutes to speak during the forum.”

Gist said that refreshments will be served following the forum.

In addition, Gist said that those who want to participate in the march, may park their cars at the courthouse. He said that after the forum the church will provide them with transportation back to their cars. Alternatively, Gist said those who want to do so may park their cars at the church and will be provided with transportation to the courthouse.

The public is invited to participate in Saturday’s march.

McBeth Baptist Church is located at 105 Lawson Avenue.
