UNION — The history of Union County continues and so does the book chronicling that history.

In its third edition, “The Narrative History of Union County South Carolina” by Dr. Allan D. Charles told the story of the history of Union County from colonial times to the late 20th century.

On Tuesday, the newly published fourth edition arrived at the Union County Museum which will be hosting a book signing by the author Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“We are going to be doing, just in time for Christmas, a book signing with Dr. Allan Charles of his new book,” Peter Triggiani, Assistant to the Museum Director, said Thursday. “The fourth edition has over 60 pages of new additional history. He’s updated multiple chapters of the book and brings the story up to 2012 with a new chapter entitled ‘The Beginning of the 21st Century.’”

Triggiani said that the museum received more than 1,100 copies of the fourth edition Tuesday. The copies, which cost $40 each, are available for sale at the museum. Triggiani said since then two copies have been purchased by and will be mailed to a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Museum Director Ola Jean Kelly said that a third copy has been mailed to an individual in Washington state.

Copies for the book will be available for sale during Saturday’s book signing, but Triggiani said those interested in purchasing a copy who can’t make it to the event can still order it online through the museum website (www.unioncountymuseum.com)

Saturday’s book signing is being sponsored by the Union County Historical Society which owns the museum. Triggiani pointed out that historical society also owns the copyright on the book.

“Dr. Charles has been generous enough to donate the copyright of the book to the historical society,” Triggiani said. “All proceeds from the sale will go to the historical society.”
