JONESVILLE — The Potter’s Storehouse is reaching out for help in order to continue helping others.

The Potter’s Storehouse (TPS) in Jonesville hosts a food distribution event two times each month, feeding more than 3,800 clients each month. Pastor Don Moore pointed out that of those 3,800 people, around 1,200 are children.

“When you stop and consider that we at TPS are not only able to feed those children, but also their mamas and daddys, for far less than $1 each, it’s amazing!” Moore said.

Moore mentioned that TPS has received great assistance in the past few months, including large amounts of canned goods from Union County Relay for Life and the U.S. Post Office in Union.

“We filled three bins with well over 1,000 cans,” Moore said.

Moore said he is grateful for the help received, but he also said expenses continue to accumulate for TPS, giving examples such as an $820 bill for Lockhart Power, a $900 bill for Second Harvest Food Bank, and a $5,000 bill for the credit card used for fuel and truck rentals for picking up food. TPS also needs freon put in the walk-in freezers.

“It just takes a lot to help fill the gap for the hungry and needy,” Moore said. “We desperately need some more churches and clubs — as well as individuals — to step up and help us.”

Those who are not able to help monetarily are encouraged to volunteer, as TPS also needs help in the way of office work, box packing, and carrying food boxes to cars. Volunteers are asked to help from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The next food distribution event at TPS will be Wednesday, Sept. 25.

“If you can help us in any way to feed the children and the other 2,500 people who come for help twice a month, please call me personally,” Moore said.

Pastor Don Moore may be reached by phone at (864) 680-3465.

“If you have any doubts at all about our program, come on distribution day and let me show you or your group around,” Moore added. “After you see the needs being met, talk to the people and hear their stories, you will desire to help us as well.”
