UNION — The driver of a car that ran off the Kelly Road Monday afternoon has been charged in the accident.
L/Cpl Billy Elder, Community Relations Officer for the S.C. Highway Patrol, said that the accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. on the Kelly Road near Sunset Road. Elder said that a 2001 Ford SUV was traveling east on Kelly Road when it ran off the roadway and struck a tree and an embankment. He said the driver and a two-year-old male juvenile who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the wreck were transported from the scene for medical attention.
Elder identified the driver as Amanda Vaughan, 32, 131 Brannon Road, Union. He said that Vaughan has been charged by the SCHP with driving under the influence.
When the accident occurred, Elder said Vaughan was wearing a seat belt while the juvenile was in a child safety seat.
