UNION — Thursday’s meeting of the Union Hospital District Board of Trustees began with time of recognition.

The late I.G. Vanderford was remembered at the beginning of the meeting for his years of service to the district as a member of the board. Vanderford served as a board member from 1994-1999 and 2008-2012. Each board member — as well as others in attendance — spoke about Vanderford, sharing memories and stories. County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair said Vanderford lived the majority of his life serving others; not only on the hospital board, but in many areas.

“He’s one of those people who you don’t realize how much they really did until they’re not doing it anymore,” Sinclair said.

Vanderford’s family was given a plaque in honor of his years of service, and his name will be displayed in the hospital lobby. The board also made a donation to the Union County Health Care Foundation in Vanderford’s name.

Wallace Thomson Hospital’s Renee Goode was also recognized at the meeting as this month’s Award of Excellence recipient. HR Director Ed Bauknight said Goode is a phenomenal employee, and her supervisor, Michelle Lott, agreed.

“She has a better work ethic than anyone I’ve ever worked with,” Lott said. “I wish I had 12 more like her.”
