UNION COUNTY — A Union County golfer has signed to go on to play at Limestone College.
Yellow Jacket golfer Kanani Lodge was joined by family members and coaches at Union County High School on Monday as she signed to play golf at Limestone College.
Lodge described the feeling of signing on Monday after graduation on Friday as surreal.
“I don’t think it’s hit me yet that I don’t have to come back,” Lodge said. “I’m excited for college and starting the next chapter of my life.”
Coach Kim Balkum said she is proud of everything Lodge has done.
“She has excelled on and off the course and is the complete athlete,” Balkum said. “She always had words of encouragement for her teammates and kept everyone smiling.”
Coach Rocky Cooper said he is also very proud of Lodge.
“She’s a great player and, more importantly, a great person and great student,” Cooper said. “She is the kind of player you want on your team. She’s a pleasure to have around.”
“I look forward to seeing myself evolve as a better golfer,” Lodge said. “I want to transform my game to become the best golfer I can in the next four years.”
Balkum said Lodge is dedicated to the sport.
“Kanani knows what she wants — to play professional golf — and she’s out there practicing every day — rain or shine, season or not,” Balkum said. “She has the dedication to make it, and I can’t wait to see what she becomes. I just hope she remembers her roots when she gets to where she’s going to!”
