CARLISLE — A free program that helps prepare children ages 1-4 for school is also being held in the Town of Carlisle.

Administrator Shannon McBride announced that the Union County School District’s Preschool Early Learning Program will be held in the Carlisle Town Hall every Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon beginning this Thursday. McBride said the service is free and all children ages 1-4 are invited to attend regardless of income. She said an adult has to stay with each child participating in the program.

The Preschool Early Learning Program is provided by the district to give children ages 1-4 and their parents the opportunity to hone basic learning skills and become comfortable in a school setting.

Monarch Elementary School Principal/Title I Director Anita Maness said this is the third year the program has been offered to the residents of Carlisle at the town hall. Maness said this is designed to make it more accessible to the parents and the children. She said it is paid by the Union County School District Title I funds for parenting.

In addition to the Carlisle Town Hall, the program is also being offered at Monarch Elementary and at Lockhart School. At Monarch Elementary the program is being offered every Tuesday and Thursday inside a mobile behind the school. The program for ages 1 and 2 is held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., and the program for ages 3 and 4 is held from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

At Lockhart School, the program is held from 10-11 a.m. each Wednesday.
