BUFFALO — A house fire investigation leaves a Buffalo woman charged with arson.
Crystal Gail Calicutt, 31, of 120 Candler Drive, Buffalo, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with third-degree arson.
In a statement released Wednesday, the sheriff’s office reports that at approximately 12:42 a.m. on Nov. 24, a call came into 911 of a reported structure fire at 217 Church St., Buffalo. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the home fully engulfed. The home was being rented to Joshua Falls at the time of the incident. Earlier in the evening, Union County deputies were in the area of the home when they saw a subject run through the house and out the back door of the residence and they believed it was a subject for whom they had warrants. A short time later, officers were notified by dispatch of the house fire.
Based on that information, deputies believed the fire was suspicious in nature and Union County Arson Investigator Scott Coffer was called to the scene to begin an investigation. Investigator Coffer contacted SLED Arson Team to assist with this investigation. After evidence was collected and statements were taken, Calicutt was charged with third-degree arson. No other arrests are expected in this case.
Calicutt was taken into custody by deputies on Tuesday, Dec. 11. She remains in the Union County Jail awaiting bond.
