MONARCH — In observance of Memorial Day, students in Mrs. Rhonda Hollingsworth’s third grade English class at Monarch Elementary School wrote the following letters to veterans:

Dear Veterans,

My name is Emma Cate Childers. You are my hero. You have saved my country many times. I thank you and appreciate all you have done for my country and me. My papa was a veteran one time. He fought a long time ago. Everyone that has saved me and my country is the best hero in the world.

I do not know how many times I can say it, but you have changed the world and me in so many ways. You have made a lot of people happy in your actions and moves. Thank you for everything.

Your friend,

Emma Cate

Dear Veterans,

I know lots of you have had hard times serving as veterans. Some of you have died and some of you are wounded because you have served this country.

We appreciate that. Some of you have missed holidays to serve this country. We appreciate that, too. Although you have missed lots of important things, you have missed them to serve the United States of America. Every American loves you. Thank you for serving this country.

All of this is what makes you a hero.

Your friend,

Daniel Clark

Dear Veterans,

My name is Shonta’ Wicks. I’m 9 years old. I like going swimming with my friends. My favorite colors are hot pink and blue.

Thank you for fighting for our country. We appreciate it so much. I know it’s hard fighting in wars. I wonder if y’all have special gear that y’all wear during the war.

One day I hope we can meet y’all. Have a great day.

Thank you,

Shonta’ Wicks

Dear Veterans,

Thank you for fighting in the wars. I appreciate you doing stuff to save our country. Y’all are the best because y’all keep us safe.

I am sorry for some people because they got hurt and some died. I am sorry for some people that were in war and may have died. Some were your friends.

I really appreciate you all keeping us and the country safe.
