UNION — The Fair Forest Chapter, NSDAR, met May 6 in the Union County Museum meeting room.
Regent Harriet Berry call the meeting to order. Chaplain Jane Owenby led by the chapter in the song “Mother” followed by a prayer. Chairman of the Flag Committee Amy Bruce led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S., the American’s Creed, the Salute to the Flag of S.C., and the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner accompanied by Kathleen Read.
National Defense Committee Chairman Mrs. Read gave a report on the history of Memorial Day. Treasurer Margaret McCarley read the Treasurer’s Report, and Secretary Mrs. Bruce read the minutes of the April 1 meeting.
Cindy Fore of the Union Veterans office collected gifts for the patients at the Columbia VA given by members of the Fair Forest Chapter.
Col. John O’Dell explained the curriculum covered in the JROTC program at the Union County High School. The units included are leadership, foundations for success, health and fitness, map reading and geography, citizenship and history, and an optional unit, marksmanship and rifle safety. The cadets participate in many events in the Union community as well as the Veterans Day Parade and the Military Ball.
