WINNSBORO — Gale Whitfield, former resident of Union County and a graduate of Union High School, has lead her teachers, students, staff, and the community of Fairfield County to their historical win of one of the state’s top honors for a school, the Palmetto’s Finest Award.
Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science was awarded Palmetto’s Finest on March 26, 2014 in the magnet school category. This award is presented by the SC Association of School Administrators (SCASA).
The schools progressed through an intensive application process requiring self-evaluation, peer review and on-site examinations. Student achievement is the foundation for all award criteria.
Mrs. Whitfield stated that “to ensure their students are prepared for life, administrators, teachers, and staff work diligently to ensure that their curriculum and instructional practices meet the needs of all students. Teachers integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math into all curriculum areas. Students have the opportunity to participate in dance, band, orchestra, Spanish, Beta Club, STEAM day (clubs), chorus and the Morning News Show.”
