UNION — The Fair Forest Chapter, NSDAR, met April 1 in the Union County Museum meeting room.

Harriett Berry, Regent, called the meeting to order. “The Lord’s Prayer” was recited for the Devotional. Amy Bruce led the chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of U.S., the American’s Creed, the Salute to the Flag of S.C., and the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner accompanied by Kathleen Read.

Martha Whitener, President General’s Message Chairman, read the message “The Project to Enrich the National Society.”

Mrs. Read, National Defense Chairman, gave a report on Veteran Carlisle White, former marshall of the Union Veteran’s Day Parade, who served in the Army in Germany and was wounded in action. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and was an expert rifleman.

Margaret McCarley, Treasurer, read the Treasurer’s Report, and Mrs. Bruce, Secretary, read the minutes of the March 4 meeting.

Amy Bruce and Kathleen Read presented the program, “Hymns of Robert Lowry.” Rev. Lowry was a Baptist minister who wrote about 500 gospel songs. His melodies are sung in every civilized land and many of his hymns have been translated into foreign tongues. The members and guests sang some of his best loved hymns, “How Can I Keep From Singing,” “Nothing But the Blood,” “Shall We Not Gather at the River,” “I Need Every Hour,” “Christ Arose,” “Marching to Zion,” “Something for Thee,” and “All the Way My Savior Leads Me,” after the hymn stories were read.

The next meeting will be May 6 in the Union County Museum meeting room with speaker Col. John O’Dell, who will present the program “Union County High School JROTC.”
