UNION COUNTY — The children’s portion of the Union County Carnegie Library’s Summer Reading Program got under way June 2 with “Blobs in a Bottle.”


The children’s portion of the program is called “Fizz, Boom, Read” and its June 2, which was for ages 6-12, was Blobs in a Bottle in which the participating children made Lava Lamps.


The teen portion of the Summer Reading Program is called “Spark A Reaction.”


The Summer Reading Program continues this week and through the end of July with the following activities on the following dates:


June 5 — Ages 6-12 — 10 a.m-12:30 p.m. — Movie: Robots. Snacks served.


June 9 — Ages 6-12 — 1-3 p.m. — Making Robots. Snacks served.


June 10 — (Grades 3-5) — 2-3:30 p.m. — The Science Tellers will present a program for elementary students. They will use science experiments to tell stories.


June 12 — Ages 2-5 — 2-3 p.m. — Preschoolers making Robots. Snacks served.


June 19 — Family Event 2-3 p.m. — Marshmallow Catapult. Winners will receive prizes. Snacks served.


June 24 — Teens Ages 12-17 — 1-3 p.m. — Making soap. Snacks served.


June 30 — Family Event — 10-10:45 a.m. — The Wacky World of Science with Ronald McDonald.


July 8 — Ages 2-5 — 2-3:30 p.m. — Movie: Sid the Science Kid. Snacks served.


July 14 — Ages 6-11 — 1-2:30 p.m. — Making “Elephant Toothpaste” Science Experiment.


July 17 — Ages 2-5 — 2-3:30 p.m. — Science Experiments. Volcanoes and Making Foam Dough.


July 21 — Ages 2 -5 — 10-11:30 a.m. — Come for a “Lego Party.” Build a Robot or whatever you want. Snacks served.


July 22 — Ages 6-11 — 10 a.m.-Noon — Come for a “Lego Party.” Build a Robot or whatever you want. Snacks served.


Children under 12 who participate in the program must have a parent present at all times.
