UNION COUNTY — Darius Gory, a student in Mrs. Hughey’s Introduction to Engineering and Design class presented his final project of the year. Each student had to create a product using the “Engineering Process,” design and develop a prototype as well as present the material to the class.

The students in Mrs. Hughey’s class have been learning how to sell not only their products, but learn some aspects of business in the process. The concept for the project was adapted from the ABC Show “Shark Tank.” Students worked individually to develop a fictional product and presented the product information to a group of potential investors (Sharks) who at times were faculty members from the school.

Students had to be prepared to answer any questions the Sharks may have concerning their product. Their presentation had to include a prototype, information about their product, how much capital they would need and what percentage of their company they are willing to sell to the Sharks for their investment in the company. Each students had to answer the questions the Sharks had about their product and their business plan.

The projects ranged from a Solar Car Battery to a Deer Control Apparatus for a garden.
