UNION — Students and staff at Foster Park Elementary School prepare for PASS testing with an Olympic Themed Ceremony. The students received Olympic Themed PASS T shirts decorated with the words Focus, Persevere, Excel and Shine along with the Foster Park Eagle carrying the Olympic torch.
Students and staff in grades three through five formed a circle on the ball field. Kindergarten, first and second graders encircled the older students to show their support for the students as they take on the challenge of the PASS Test. Students passed the torch to signify their commitment to doing their best on the test.
Student Council President, Madeline Gilstrap, inspired and encouraged students to do their best and explained how the PASS Test demonstrates what they know as well as what they will need help with next year. She encouraged the students to “Shine.”
The torch was presented to Madeline who initiated the passing of the torch around the circle.
Mrs. Palmer, principal, and Mrs. Graham, guidance counselor, also offered words of encouragement and support.
Mrs. Graham used the quote, “If you believe, you can achieve” and Mrs. Palmer used quotes and examples from the book, Even Eagles Need a Push.
“I would list Walt Disney among the greatest coaches who ever lived. He drew up the plays, gave us our assignments, inspired us and motivated us. That’s what great coaches do.” (Jim Kimball, longtime employee of Walt Disney)
Mrs. Palmer explained that the teachers had been great coaches throughout the year and now it was time for them to take on the PASS challenge just as they would undertake an Olympic challenge! She encouraged them to Focus, Persevere, Excel and Shine!
