I have written and spoken several times about the valuable assistance and support the Friends of the Library provide for the Union Carnegie Library. Whether it is through fund raising, book sales, or volunteering support of programs, the Friends enable the library to provide quality services to the community.

Today I want to discuss an opportunity to support the Friends as they work to support the library. In just under two weeks (Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church Fellowship Hall), the Friends will be hosting their annual meeting. More information about the meeting and the guest performer (Philip Cheney) will be forthcoming.

The annual meeting is an excellent opportunity to join the Friends and learn more about the work they do. It is an opportunity to learn about library projects and activities the Friends support as well as a chance to learn about ways to get involved with Friends.

It is also an opportunity to enjoy some great entertainment. Philip Cheney comes highly recommended by the Humanities Council of South Carolina, and, as director of the Oconee County Library, understands the value libraries provide to their communities.

If you have not already joined the Friends of the Library, I would encourage you to do so, and if you are looking for an opportunity to get involved in the community, the Friends of the Library is a great organization (even if I am a bit biased).
