Pretty soon you will see a Wall of Angels, it’s a Christmas Memorial of Loved Ones that have passed away. Come by and read the names and have remembrance of them.

If you have lost a loved one and want to purchase an Angel for the wall in Lockhart, you may come by the town hall in Lockhart and tell Brenda Jenkins the name and date of death to be put on one, these cost $20 to be made. She is there from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If this is not convenient you can come by my shop and I’ll see that she gets it.

Also if you have an Angel and want it put back up this holiday, you can send your $10 and give the name to Brenda. This money refurbishes it for you.

Lockhart Parade

The Lockhart Parade will be on Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. That’s 2 instead of our usual 3. We are sharing the day with Buffalo, and they changed theirs to 4:30 so we can have them on the very same day, and everyone can be in both parades.

Line up will start at 12:30 and if you have a float to enter in our contest please have it at Lockhart School by then. Most Attractive, Best Theme, and Most Original. We had a pretty good turnout last year and maybe there will be more floats this year.

When I first moved here and saw the parade, I noticed that there were a lot of floats. Then as the years went on it started being just cars and trucks, and an occasional float. But now we are getting the floats back and it’s great. Thank you for participating.

Veterans Day

Monday, Nov. 11, Ailene, Donnie and I participated in the Veterans Parade, and we all felt real proud that we could witness the wonderful event.

Kevin Brewington was the guest speaker, and hearing his traumatic ordeal was very moving, and never once did I hear pity in his voice. He is an amazing man and tries to motivate other young people and touches the hearts of everyone that comes in contact with him. I am so glad to have met him.

Jantzen Childers and Cindy Fore really put on a great service.

Weather

What about this weather? Well right now it’s really Tuesday p.m. and it rained and the wind was wild. They are calling for snow. But I never predict the weather since I’ve moved here.

When I lived up North, you could tell when the snow was coming, the sky would turn gray. Here the sun can be shining one minute and then the next there’s snow or sleet. I personally love the warm days, instead.

Oh to wake up and see the snow untouched by cars is beautiful, but in about an hour it starts melting or the cars have made it into slush. And I hate to bundle up in heavy clothes. I just started to wear socks, and I feel like I’m suffocating. I’ve got to get my mind in this game to survive the winter.

As long as I grew up in the cold and snow I didn’t know there was a better climate. My car doors would freeze and after work at night I would struggle to get them opened. Or be driving one way on the road, spin around and not realize it and be going back the way you came. And shovel, shovel, shovel for hours just to have a road crew plow snow back into the drive as they scrape the roads. But I didn’t know another life. Give me sunshine!

Michigan is called “Winter Wonderland” in the winter and “Land of the Lakes” in the summer. We have many winter sports, so I guess that makes it enjoyable. But that’s the life I lived until I met the Sunshine State.

Humor

I don’t think cops should wear mirrored sunglasses. The whole time the guy was chewing me out, all I could think was, I should cut my bangs.

I dressed my dog up as a mailman for Halloween. He bit himself!

The reason women don’t play football is that 11 of them would never wear the same outfit in public.

Birthdays

I think I missed November birthdays, sorry. If you don’t call me, it’s hard for me to know. Carolyn P. Belue had one last week. Jonah McCutcheon had one on the 10th. D.A McCloud had one on the 8th, along with daughter Norma Burgess. Tell Tiffany Hudgins happy belated, it was on the 8th also. Cathy Smith on the 13th. Louise McCutcheon on the 14th. Patsy Fowler on the 16th. Happy Birthday to Butchie Allen, Judy Johnson, and Danny Sprouse on the 17th.

Carolina Christmas

Carolina Christmas will have their first show this season at Lockhart First Baptist Family Life Center, 126 Armory Road, Lockhart, on Nov. 23 at 6 p.m.

Upcoming Wedding

Saturday, Nov. 16, Ashley Painter and Blake McCollum will be united in marriage at 3 p.m. in Tommy and Tammy McCollum’s yard, at 1615 Mt.Tabor Church Road, Jonesville. I wish them the best.

Cat

There is a black, gray, and a touch of orange Calico cat hanging around, and the man who owned it said he didn’t want it back, even though his wife called me and asked if I had seen it. Well, I want you to know that even though he says you have enough cats, this little one cries all the time, maybe from loneliness or maybe it’s used to being in out of the cold. He told me her name and she does respond to it. Please open up your heart and come and get her.

Clever Solution

Three buildings in town were overrun by squirrels — the town hall, the hardware store, and the church.

The town hall brought in some cats. But after they tore up all the files, the mayor got rid of the predators, and soon the squirrels were back.

The hardware store humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free outside town. But three days later, the squirrels climbed back in.

Only the church came up with an effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and made them members. Now they see them only on Christmas and Easter.

Well it’s time to say good night and don’t forget I’m going to sell books until the end of the month. If you let me know when you are coming I’ll be sure to pull all of them out for you. But you are welcome to come in and browse. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1-7 p.m. Call at 864-545-6652. Good night.
